Type: Backcountry or Sidecountry
Description
This route follows snow-covered roads the entire way and has a mellow grade and a short vertical, so the 6 miles go by fast and easy.
Cross the highway from where you parked, put your skins on, and follow the road for a quarter mile. Take a right, pass May Queen Campground, and contour around Turquoise Lake. The scenery is great, but the road is flat and kind of boring.
After 3 miles you'll come to an intersection. Going straight will take you to Skinner Hut, after 7 long miles. Take a right on Forest Service Road 107 and start climbing (finally!). Continue on this road, passing a few turnoffs. Keep an eye out for old mining cabins and debris as you continue climbing through the woods. Eventually you pop out in a clearing with the hut.
