Type: Backcountry or Sidecountry
Description
This route is much longer, and much less steep than
Ironedge to Estin Hut. It simply follows a road until near the top, and is not particularly aesthetic. But it makes a good ski down if you want something super fast and easy.
From the parking area, head towards the campground and look for Hat Creek Road. Follow it back above Yoeman Park (going AWAY from the hut for nearly a mile), before switching back and heading south. Bypass West Hat Creek Road (after about 2.5 miles total) and keep slogging up through easy switchbacks.
As you get near the saddle (at around 10,800'), leave the road and find the singletrack on the left (east) that will lead more directly to the hut. If you miss this, the road will continue to the saddle via a longer route, and you can find the hut to the east. Do not descend the saddle.
