Mount Black Exit

Black Mountain is primarily skied in summer and the exit line is a hike, but in winter the snow goes and although steep and through thick trees, the beauty of the zone is well worth it.

The summer trail follows the South side of Pine Creek and consists of steep sections of sidehilling. In winter much of this can be bypassed by staying taking a descent line different than the summer trail offering up bits of open fields of fresh snow here and there. The entire zone is steep, craggy, and peppered with waterfalls so travelers must beware of their surroundings.

If hiking out get ready for a pounding on the knees but know that once you get to Pine Creek Falls it's a sight for sore eyes and means you've only got a short distance further to go. Arrive back at the trailhead and find your way to the Pine Creek Cafe for some superb grub.
