Description

It's a bit of a slog to get into this area but well worth it with many skiable peaks within a day trip of the Brian Waddington Hut, all with a Lord-of-the-Rings-themed name.

From Pemberton, continue on Highway 99 towards the town of Mount Currie.
From Mount Currie, continue North towards D'Arcy instead of branching off on 99 to the right. A few KM before reaching the town of D'Arcy, turn left onto Blackwater Lake Rd, a well-maintained dirt road. This will lead you to the north side of Birkenhead Lake and Provincial Park, which is gated in Winter. Park here.

From the parking, follow the logging road north for ~6km where it abruptly ends. From here, continue north through alder, staying on the west side of Phelix Creek. Eventually, you'll arrive in a dense forest where the trail begins to climb steeply. The trail is marked with orange markers on trees. After ~3km, you'll arrive at the east end of Long Lake. Cross the lake to arrive at Brian Waddington Hut.
