Elfin Lakes Hut Approach

Type: Backcountry or Sidecountry

This approach is used to access Paul Ridge, a popular day-tripping area, and much of the terrain on the South side of Mount Garibaldi, including the classic Garibaldi Neve Traverse.

From Downtown Squamish, drive north on highway 99 to Mamquam road.
Turn right (east) on Mamquam road which will eventually turn into Garibaldi Park road as you drive past Quest University. Follow this logging road and follow signs for Garibaldi Park. There is a sign at the lower parking lot indicating that chains are required past that point to access the upper lot.

Once at the upper lot, follow the forest road which leads directly to Red Heather Hut (~1 hour from upper lot). From there, a signed winter route will lead you all the way to Elfin Shelter (~1.5 hours from Red Heather Hut).
