Description

Park at the end of Thiel Road and skin up the trail to the summit, following signs for the Thunderbolt trail. The hut at the summit is a nice sheltered place to take a break before heading down, especially if somebody has already built a fire in the fire place.

The run down consists of some very nice fall link pitches that are 30 to 50 ft wide and are and a few hundred feet long interspersed with narrower sections that wind through the woods. The steepest sections are comparable in difficulty to a blue or easy black run at a resort.

History & Background

The thunderbolt trail is one of the original CCC ski trails cut during the 1930s. Extensive historical information on the trail can be found here: thunderboltski.com/
