Lost Lake Glades

Type: Backcountry or Sidecountry

A short, open glade to the east of Lost Lake that can be lapped.

From Lost Lake, follow the eastern edge of the lake shore and veer left as you reach the southern end of the lake. After a short section in the trees (there is often a skin track), you'll reach a small open glade. Take off the skins and enjoy. The trees at the bottom are tight, so most will opt for laps in the glade.

There are some steeper areas and potential terrain traps in the glade, so pick your line wisely. For the return trip, retrace the approach or follow the skin track that accesses the Eldora backcountry gate and then pick your way through the woods back to the trail (difficult).

This is a popular area, especially on the weekends.

In the 1890's gold was discovered on the slopes overlooking Lost Lake, which lead to creation of the town named Eldora. Between Eldora and Lost Lake was the townsite of Hessie, which was founded by Captain J.H. Davis and named this settlement after his wife, Hessie.
