Type: Backcountry or Sidecountry
Need to Know
There is a rocky talus field at the end of the route that is rarely skiable. Stick to the skier's right along the talus field, as that usually holds more snow. The middle of the talus field is avalanche terrain. Palisades lift doesn't always run, so you might be walking out the bottom if it's not moving.
Description
This sidecountry route can be accessed from the Headwaters backcountry access gate at RLM Resort. Traverse across from the gate (there's probably a trail) and make some turns down the ridgeline to the second knob. Rather than climb to the second knob, traverse to the right underneath it and you'll intersect the top of the Shoot the Moon talus field.
Traverse skiers left through tight trees at the bottom of the talus field and you'll eventually intersect the Meeteetse Trail run that takes you to the Palisades Lift. Though you begin in the resort, and can even catch a lift from the end of this route, you'll still be exiting the patrolled and maintained portion of the resort, and backcountry precautions need to be taken.
History & Background
Readily skiable in 2013/2014 ski season.
