Type: Backcountry or Sidecountry
Need to Know
This is a fairly popular area for backcountry skiers and snowshoers.
Description
Many lines are possible from the top of Gold Hill. Generally a small cornice will put you on a short open face that leads to gentle glade skiing back to your approach track. Short rollers in the glades keep the skiing exciting.
The further you go northwest on Gold Hill (back toward your car), the trees get tighter and more difficult to maneuver. If you stay at or below tree line the slope is gentle except for the rollers in the glades that are marginally steeper.
This area stays shaded, soft, and deep most of the winter.
History & Background
There are several old mining buildings and an old aerial tram a little further up the
Mayflower Gulch.
