Type: Backcountry or Sidecountry
Need to Know
Expect windy conditions as you gain the main Chestnut Mountain ridge, and assess avalanche conditions if you make a direct drop-in at the top of the line.
Description
From the top of the
Goose Creek uptrack (at the scraggly tree at top of Chestnut Mountain south ridge), head further up the ridge (see
Goose Creek - South Uptrack). The ridge will flatten out and broaden. Continue on skinner's Right of the ridge top, until the flat area transitions to an uphill section. Turn right and aim for the small gap in the trees (just left of "the perfect little Christmas tree"). Be careful on the approach, as the drop-in to the line is dramatic and sudden (the top of the line is cliffy). If this section is daunting, try moving North thru the trees for a while, then swing downhill to the East. Follow the line down the drainage until it intersects the main
Dirty Little Secret line, which leads down to a Forest road. Turn right and you can ski down (with maybe a little up here and there) to intersect the uptrack in a little over a mile.
