Type: Backcountry or Sidecountry
Overview
Disclaimer: This line wasn't an objective in and of itself so much as it was the return of an exploratory tour in a new area with relative easy TH access and a mixed group of snowshoers.
Starting from a fairly nondescript point in a thin aspen grove, this descent had fun sections through trees with a couple open slopes dotted with pillows at a low angle.
Description
We followed the tracks of a ranger who had been conducting snowpack tests further up Red Mountain and chose the start point based on time and snow conditions. More vert is possible by continuing to climb to the west toward the summit though tree density increases as you approach the summer Red Mountain Trail.
The final three-tenths of a mile of this line mark the skin out across the valley, back to the Colorado River Trailhead.
