Need to Know

Quick, easy tour, false summit about 2/3 the way up, trees the whole way, really about as easy as it gets for a tour, and a lot of fun. Just get out of your car at Luther pass, and start walking up. There may be a few skin tracks and people like to cross country ski in the meadow, so don't stray, just go straight up the mountain if you are unsure of what tracks to take. Check out Divided Sky, a second floor bar right in Meyers for a beer awesome sandwiches afterwards.

Description

Waterhouse peak is a fun 1800 foot feature often referred to as the 'safe' place to ski on considerable days. While there are always rollovers and a cornice on top, it is not very steep, but steep enough to have fun, and is entirely treed except the summit itself. Waterhouse is a very efficient tour. Take the Waterhouse Peak Ascent to the the more north facing side of a gully that will lead you back down to the meadow, as the route suggests. You could also easily go down the exact same way you went up and avoid having to pole out across the meadow. The trees are well spaced until the very bottom when they get a little tight, but still very skiable.

You can combine this with a tour of powderhouse peak (unnamed on most maps), visible from the road immediately to the northwest if you want to do laps on two different mountains.

Skied w/ my AIARE 2 class. Checked out the crown from a recent slide in the steep bowl, but generally skied left of it. 4.4mi — 4h 30m
