Description

This is one of New Hampshire's back country nordic classics. The Al Merrill Ski Trail is a loop with the Asquam Ridge Trail, which is not as suitable for skiing in places, so it is best done as an out and back along the switchbacks. In the winter, Ravine Road is closed to all motorized vehicles, and used only by snowshoers and skiers.

History & Background

The area around the location of the Ravine Lodge has been used for skiing since the 1920s, with a rope tow and alpine trails present near the John Rand Cabin along the Al Merrill Ski Loop.
