Need to Know

For more information, taosavalanchecenter.org and nnmae.org are useful sites to find and share information about the Taos backcountry.

Description

Named for a legendary backcountry skier who has likely logged more vertical than anyone else in the Taos area, this line covers everything from the high alpine along the Wheeler Peak North Ridge route to the bottom of the valley.

Dropping from the top, stay high on a sub-ridge to the top of the Finger Chutes. Just skier's left of the Pinky Trib are some open shots funneling across treeline leading through some old-growth forest to a classic New Mexican Sangres, below treeline wide open slide path. At the bottom of the path, pick a random line through the open trees to the Williams Lake Trail.
