Type: Backcountry or Sidecountry
Description
This narrow couloir sticks out against the rocky slopes on Fairview Mountain's north side and can be seen clearly from Kachina Peak's summit. Also known as The Wire or Dogleg by some resort skiers, it's a Taos backcountry classic. The best way to access this line is to climb it from the basin in the middle of Wildy Bowl. The couloir makes a left turn about halfway down; when looking down from the top, this makes it appear to drop off suddenly. The top of the line is often wind-scoured and rocky; when it's filled in, this is an exhilarating ascent and descent.
The best access route is to climb the couloir; if you're comfortable on a short Class 3 knife-edge ridge it can be accessed from What's Mine.
