Description

This is a good route to avoid crossing beneath the K Chutes during spring. The terrain is south-southeast facing, which can melt out quickly in the warm spring sun and is why it's a great route to avoid traversing the bottom of the K Chutes. Be aware if the snow is deep enough, as avalanche danger may exist on this side too. From the Kachina Peak Main route find a suitable way above the ski patrol hut at the top of Lift 4. Follow the treeline along an open apron that catches slides from a series of treed chutes. Contour up this slope, switching back where the terrain steepens. There are a lot of rock outcrops at the top of the slope which may require some Class 3 moves before it gains the ridge at a saddle.
