Chikadee North Aspect

Type: Backcountry or Sidecountry

Watch for snowshoers and cross-country skiers on the skin back.

This is a wide but short, gladed face with nice steeps. The trees and north-facing nature of the aspect keep the snow cold. It also receives a nice wind buff from the prevailing westerlies.

For getting out, reapply skins whenever your line runs out of steam and head NW. Follow a gentle ascent along the contours of the terrain until it flattens out. Try to stay a bit south of the stream to avoid weeds and hassle, and usually there will be a skin track in the valley headed back toward the cars.
