We started at the same point as 6.3, but we headed more left or west until we hit the Frazier River and 7 Mile.

Need to Know

If you are not a good route finder, this route could be a real issue. You need to have a GPS and be well-versed in route finding to attempt this type of a ski run. It is long and unforgiving, so don't head out there unless you are very self sufficient. But overall this is an easier/simpler run than 6.3.

Description

After skinning up the 6.3 Approach, you'll end up above the treeline on the far side of the Vortex. We dropped in at this point heading slightly left or more west than 6.3 toward the Frazier River. The trees on 6.5 are better spaced than 3.6 and a more desirable Tree Run, not too tight if you are a good solid skier, but this run could be a death trap for a beginner. There are lots of downed trees and obstacles, but a good fall line.

We skied into a large opening that actually point released, so be very cautious! Before connecting to the Frazier River we passed a very old cabin. Shortly after that, we were above the waterfall on the Frazier River.

We ended up in a creek bed that eventually connected to the 7 Mile Trail/Ski Run and the Frazier River. We also connected to the bottom on the 6.3 Ski Run just before getting back to the last switchback on Highway 40 heading to Winter Park.
