Type: Backcountry or Sidecountry
Description
This is an incredible line that rarely sees traffic due to the longer ascent and relatively easy access to other great lines in the area. The line starts in the lowest saddle between the summit of
Steep Peak and the sub-peak to the east of Steep. The saddle itself is not visible from the lake, but a good view of the saddle and the entrance to the ski line can be gained from the top of
Peak 2318 before you descend from the summit. The saddle can also be gained from skinning along the top of
Steep Peak.
Due to the prevailing southeast winds in the area, the saddle can very heavily corniced and a lot of care is needed when choosing an entrance line. The cornices can be avoided by entering next to 3 small trees uphill to the west. The trees have sheltered the edge of the saddle preventing the snow from building over the lip. Ski the fall line to skiers right the whole way down the bowl or choose a slightly steeper line to skiers left. Exit through the gully to end up back at Darkside Lake.
