Need to Know

Most of this ascent is in the Mount Rose Wilderness. Please respect all signage, closures, and regulations posted. No motor vehicles (i.e. snowmobiles) on this side of the ridge. The normal skin track passes under and through known avalanche zones—make sure you're beeping.

Description

Most popular trailhead for backcountry access to the Tamarack Peak descents. Parking here allows you to ski and board all the way back to your car after your tour

Head toward Tamarack Lake, staying on one side of the marsh or the other (line is shown on the south side of the marsh). You'll hate life if you try to go through it. Near the north side of Tamarack Lake gain the ridge, which also makes for a good short days or beginner descents on mellow terrain for beginners.

Advanced skiers head up the north-northeast ridge in the trees. This is steep enough you'll need to put in switchbacks and have good edge control, typically mixing between powder and sastrugi. As you gain the top of the ridge turn to the west and gain the mellow summit of Tamarack Peak.

After you tour the North Faces, make your final descent through the east-facing Proletariat Bowl (sometimes called Galena Bowl) and ski toward the west side of Tamarack Lake, don't lose too much elevation and regain the ascent track back to your car.

Gives access to:
-Tamarack Peak
-Galena Bowl/Proletariat
-Hourglass Bowl
-Broken Glass
-Tamarack South Slope
-Daniel's Delight
