Type: Backcountry or Sidecountry
Check with whoever the land manager is—it changes periodically.
Overview
After a brief and quick hike to the base of the line, simply set a nice track to the near summit. The actual summit is a bit farther but covered in trees, is sacred, and not worth going to. Strip skins and ski the best line in the Jemez—fo sho!
Need to Know
There may be restrictions these days due to transfer of ownership here and there, so check before you go. They won't believe that there is good "downhill skiing", but you know the drill.
Description
Spring conditions will give the best coverage, but be timely as this is a purely south facing line. Have respect and regard and Leave No Trace as we always do.
Skin up the route and check for stability—ski crampons would be useful in hard conditions.
Once at the top, start off on a gentle slope on the broad shoulder. This gently gives was to more steep terrain on the flat face where one can really open it up for a long way. Then, bring it back under control to finish out through the trees and the flats. Revel in the accomplishment. Snap a photo if you have the restraint, I couldn't...it was that good.
