Road is closed in winter. Usually opens in May/June. The best place to park is on the side of the road at/near the beginning of the ascent, but there are only a few spots so come early.

Need to Know

Road is closed through the winter.

Description

Show up early and get moving when the snow is hard. This is a spring skiing ascent, so snow will likely warm up fast in the Wyoming sun. Touring is the way to go for the first part. Most will need to switch to crampons or boot-packing once you reach the last ridge.

Late season avalanches are common, especially after a fresh snow. Please be careful and check conditions. Can be extremely windy up top and cornices are common.

You can ski the steep stuff straight off of the true peak or ride the ridge back down. When the conditions are right, this is a great place to lap a couple times.
