Description
This was my first ski tour in Rogers Pass. The area seems committing and complex anywhere you go, but I found this to be an ample introduction.
The up track crosses many avalanche paths, so we practiced a lot of one-at-a-time travel. The skin in is fairly gradual, though there can be some tricky spots down low as it closely follows a rocky creek bottom. As this is a popular backcountry touring area, with a large guide community, don't be surprised to find a lot of people out there, and watch for others above you and below you.
The best skiing are the treeless slopes down the terminal moraine of the glacier, then lookers right from the skin track in an open run with some pillows/cliffs on either side, before a flat ski out to meet back up with the skin track.
