Type: Backcountry or Sidecountry
Overview
This is a great alternative to skiing out of the banana bowls along the skintrack. Hundreds of tourists cheering your turns is your prize for undertaking this more adventurous egress.
Description
At the junction of the
Flattop Mountain Approach and
Ptarmigan Approach, point your skis directly towards Bear Lake and rip the trees all the way down.
There are several options down, depending on snow coverage and the preferred angle of descent. Some route-finding is needed here in order to ski an efficient line, but one can see the lake most of the descent.
As this is primarily south-facing, there may not be good snow coverage early season, and it will also be very sun exposed in spring. If you can time this correctly, it is an amazing way to get back to the TH after a day of laps in the
Banana Bowls.
