Austing Glades

Type: Backcountry or Sidecountry

Open glades covering steep south facing slopes with interspersed rock outcrops. Moderately technical riding requires route finding skills and careful snowpack evaluation.

Parking is along the highway at the Gavilan Trail #60 trailhead, it usually isn't plowed to accommodate trail users but a few vehicles are often parked here on the shoulder.

Visible from the highway above the Austing Haus and Columbine Inn, this zone is near the crux of low/ high elevations and often melts off quickly with a few sunny days after a storm. Many years it is perpetually bare. If you get it on a good snow year or after a prolonged storm cycle and the snow is deep some great expert-level tree riding can happen. Abundant rock outcrops and small decomposing cliffs create a technical matrix of various line possibilities. Find the route up from the Gavilan Trail #60 and climb to the ridge south of the Ghost Gully.
