Snow Bird Hut (American Alpine Club)
Overview
Located on the Snowbird Glacier, in scenic Hatcher Pass, The Snow Bird hut is a wonderful place to get some early season turns in, or spend a few nights at during any season. It sleeps up to 12 people on a first come basis. It has a Kerosene heater to dry out wet liners and facilitate a good time. Check out the American Alpine Club page on this hut for more info,
Getting to the hut can be challenging the first time. From the Reed Lakes Trailhead, hike towards the lakes and Snowbird Slab, at the old building site, there is a turn off that takes you left up a steep hill towards the old Snowbird Mine. Follow this trail through a glorious hanging valley to the pass onto Snowbird Glacier. Travel down the glacier hugging the moraine on the right side until you reach the rock with the red arrow point towards the hut.
You can ski lots of terrain out the door from the glacier, including the relatively safe Snowbird Glacier with the very classic Nunatak at its center.
