Type: Backcountry or Sidecountry
Overview
Technically easy and relatively avalanche-safe, this route offers a superb summit with a decent (but not great) ski down.
Description
From the hut, head straight east until you find the Colorado Trail. It is well marked, generally tracked, and shouldn't be too hard to find (use the onX Backcountry mobile app if necessary). Follow the trail southwest until you get to Galena Mountain's prominent south ridge. You'll be right at treeline and out in the open at this point.
Climb this ridgeline to the summit (near the ridgeline is safer, but less snowy due to wind). After about 1,200 feet of climbing you'll attain the summit with superb views in all directions.
Ski back the way you came, being considerate of increased avalanche risk the further you get west from the ridge.
