Type: Backcountry or Sidecountry
Description
This route mostly follows roads popular with snowmobiles. This makes travel fast and easy, though you may prefer the
Newcomer Spring route if you want a nice quiet experience.
From the parking area, continue down East Brush Creek Road almost half a mile before taking a left on Fulford Road. Stay on this road through several switchbacks through forest for four miles, until you get to the ghost town of Fulford. At this point, you'll drop about 100 feet down to Nolan Creek.
From here, it gets trickier. After crossing the creek over a bridge, turn right on Nolan Lake Trail and ski about 300 yards to a 10th Mountain Trail on the left near the remains of an old cabin. You finally depart the road and climb much steeper for about a mile until you hit another road (New York Mountain Road), which you follow a short ways.
Keep your eyes out for the left turn and the final half mile of trail to the hut. At some point, you'll cross the jeep road again, but go straight through it (don't get tempted to follow it in either direction). Another half mile and you're at the hut.
