Type: Backcountry or Sidecountry
Description
Park in the more southern of the two Camp Hale trailheads. Cross the river and continue on the straight towards the mountains. When you hit the perpendicular road at the base of the mountains, turn right and go 1/4 mile to Ranch Creek Road 755, where you'll take a left.
From here, you'll wiggle around a little bit, eventually in the bottom of the Ranch Creek drainage, where you'll stay all the way to the top of the mountain. You'll find the Jackal Hut just off the south side of the summit. Along the way, you're mostly in the woods, but you'll pass a huge clearing around 10,800 with several old cabins.
Navigation is easy, and it's a wide easy dirt road, but it is quite sustained at a steep angle!
There can be a lot of snowmobile traffic on this route.
