Description

This fun line is one of the best that Taos Ski Valley has to offer. Located just past the gate that separates West Basin from the ThunderBird area, you need to get here before ~2:00 before the gate closes to enjoy the full line. (Gate closing time subject to change due to weather, and time of year). If the gate is closed you can enter into Saint Bernard, ski a short ways and head skier's left over a small ridge to enter Elevator just below the first crux.

After passing through the gate just past "Saint Bernard" to the Thunderbird area of West Basin, a sign denotes the start for Elevator. Drop in on easier terrain with a few trees for a couple turns until the run begins to steepen and get tighter. The crux is a 15 foot section that is 1.5 ski lengths wide. Below this it opens up into wider terrain, with one more tight section at the bottom with a rock wall to your left.

If you are a great skier there are a few smaller cliffs on the left that drop into the run, or go straight off the huge cliff ~40 feet at the base. This has been done during the Xtreme competitions, but it is big and has a tricky landing with some trees thrown in.
