Type: Backcountry or Sidecountry
Description
I call this the 740 Snowfield because it is near the 740 Mine. It may have a different name.
This wide snowfield/couloir is great for a summer lap or two. Often it stays skiable until mid-July or later. In fact, I have only done this one May through July.
Most of the way up Boreas Pass from the Breckenridge side, find a dirt/4x4 road on the left (north). Drive 100 yards or less up to a small clearing where you can park. From there boot pack/hike up out of tree line and head left over one gully to the couloir. Then walk up the scree slope adjacent to the top of the snow, which is usually short of the ridge line.
Expect to take 1-2 hours for the hike up.
History & Background
