Sno-Park passes will be required if you decide to park in a Sno-Park parking lot, though this is not necessary as the trail starts at a pullout along the road.

Description

Start at a pullout on HWY-168 connecting to the Rancheria Trail just south of the Rancheria Creek and the Kaiser Pass Sno-Park.

This is a short, little switchback jog up to the west ridge line of Black Butte. Great for beginners new to skinning up steep inclines. This ascent cuts the switchback trail leading to Black Butte. Ski the decent for a mellow ~20-minute run through the trees back to the car.

Optionally, continue up the ridgeline to the Black Butte summit.
