Description

Great little tour out of the Virginia Lakes basin. Start from wherever the road is closed. Early winter this may be right at the Trumbull Campground. Late spring and the road may be cleared to the actual Virginia Lakes Trailhead.

Skin to the Trailhead/Bathroom area if the road is closed, then head south through the forest crossing over a creek bridge and passing the 2 cabins that are farthest west and closest to Big Virginia Lake. Head east for a bit skirting Little Virginia Lake. Rolling terrain will take you below the Northeast Face of South Peak and you'll see the actual face to look up and scope some lines. Time to Switchback!

Head up either of the twin slopes eventually aiming to summit via the left (south) ridgeline. Rip 'em and descend the way you came! Depending on snow, you may want to hike north of the summit to drop in. Totally condition dependent.
