Need to Know
Park at the Steep Creek pullout at KM 26 along Duffy Lake Rd. (HWY 99). Find the logging road access along the road just north east of the parking. Follow the logging staying right at the fork. Follow the trail until you reach Darkside Lake.
Description
This ascent begins in the clearing north of Darkside Lake on the east side of Steep Creek, and ascends the treeline on the northern edge of the avalanche path. The skin track increases in steepness until it is necessary to remove your skis and boot pack the final 150-200 meters to the top (condition dependent). Route finding is fairly straightforward as venturing too far in either direction results in getting cliffed out.
Once on top, descend the ridgeline to the south. Both the east and west side of the ridge provide access to the top of quality ski runs. Dropping into the east side gives access to the Lost Valley ski runs. Continuing along the ridge to the top on the next high point and down the other side will put you in the saddle below the summit of
Steep Peak and at the top of one of the best and longest ski descents in the Steep Creek drainage.
