Need to Know
Park at Albright View Overlook on the west side of Highway 89. If full, Sleeping Indian Overlook pullout to the south and on the east side of 89 is another option. Link up with the GPS track at base of switchbacks.
Blacktail Butte is within Grand Teton National Park Boundaries. Please respect all signage, closures, and regulations posted.
Description
From the parking area, the skin begins by heading east 0.5 miles through the flats until you hit the butte.
Switchback your way up the small face until you gain the ridge where you'll follow it all the way to the summit. You'll have vast views of the valley, Gros Ventre to the east and southeast, and Teton ranges to the west from the summit.
Choose to ski just skier's left of the skin track for the most direct and unobstructed route back to the car. All options for the descent are mellow. Look out for wolf or mountain lion tracks as they have been seen on Blacktail!
