Type: Backcountry or Sidecountry
Park beyond the fire lane signs, follow the trail around private property fencing.
Need to Know
Respect locals and their land decisions: park in the appropriate spots after the fire lane signs, please don't hop/ski over the fencing put in place, and pack out any trash or debris.
Description
To reach it, take the Eagle River Loop Road exit from the Glenn Highway and then turn right onto Hiland Road. Follow Hiland Road several miles to its very end, where there is a turnaround. Do not park in the circle; a proliferation of no parking signs will require you to park a short distance up the road.
The trail begins from the turnaround circle, just to the left of 252 Hiland Road, following the fencing to the south. Once clear of the private land/no trespassing signs, work east and up over the first hill to drop into the river basin.
Follow the river into the western bowl of Harp Mountain, then either ascend the main ridge at your twelve o'clock or work north (ten o'clock) up to the summit. Multiple descent lines are available into the western bowl.
