In spring, you can drive to the logging road gate on the Blackmore Snowfields Trail.

Overview

Snow-covered, pyramid-shaped Mount Blackmore dominates above a skyline of the forested foothills of the Hyalite Area south of Bozeman. It's north face contains some of the best chute snowfield skiing well into the summer. We found powder here in June!

Description

Take the Mount Blackmore Snowfields Trail heading from Hyalite Reservoir. Take the north/east ridge to the top.

Once at the top, ski westward dropping to where you can ski into the extremely steep couloir cut onto the cliff face. Do not ride to the bottom of the bowl unless you don't mind some extra skinning, as you must keep to the right to the first saddle to exit into Blackmore Creek Drainage.

Continue to the right as you ski into the east bowls of Blackmore to access the Snowfields Trail down to your car.
