Type: Backcountry or Sidecountry
Overview
This is a fairly popular couloir due to its visibility from Ophir. It can be approached from town or from the Opus hut.
Description
If you're approaching this from Ophir, it probably makes the most sense to climb the couloir. Tour up Swamp Canyon, staying low when you can, until you hit large clearings with a direct view of Magnum. From there, you can make a plan for climbing the couloir.
If you're approaching from Opus Hut, cross Paradise Basin and climb one of the shorter chutes onto the east ridge of S. Lookout. From there, hop over to the Clear Lake side and follow the ridge up to a saddle that's lookers-left of the summit.
You don't need to summit the craggy peak of South Lookout to enter the couloir. Instead, aim for a shoulder just to the south of the summit. The couloir rolls off from here, and it's pretty hard to miss.
