Type: Backcountry or Sidecountry
Description
Simple, gentle trail that initially follows along a connector trail for 0.3 miles from the I-70 exit area to the Bakerville-to-Loveland Trail. The couple times I've been on the connector portion, you may have to break trail as it doesn't appear this portion gets much traffic.
At 0.3 miles, you'll intersect with the Bakerville-Loveland Trail. Turn right and begin a continuous climb up to the Loveland Ski area parking lot. This portion of the trail is generally well used and you can follow the tracks all the way to the ski area parking lot.
At the parking lot, you can turn around and head back. But instead of following the path you just came up, watch for a trail on the left, 0.1 miles after turning around. This will drop you into the valley. This section always contains a lot of fresh snow. Follow it for 0.9 miles and make a right turn to take you up to the main trail. Ski back down and re-hook up to the connector trail to get to your vehicle.
Getting there: exit I-70 at
Herman Gulch exit and park on south side of I-70.
