Overview

This is a heavily-trafficked area of Independence Pass, a great option for those looking for an easy day, or just getting into the backcountry. Easy skinning and an option for car shuttle make this a backcountry classic!

Description

Park at the summit of Independence Pass. Follow the heavily-trafficked Snowfence Ridge approach, and choose your favorite line down this enormous ridge. One could run many, many laps here without any repeats.

If you're looking for a little more, continue south on the ridge to access the Cosmic Couloir, and the rest of Mountain Boy terrain.

It is also easiest to summit Mountain Boy by dropping this line and climbing up the low point in the Mountain Boy saddle, to the south (there will likely be a skintrack and an obvious transition area there as well).

Otherwise, one will need to manage 1-2 small rock step (maybe 3rd class) downclimbs to the saddle, near the Cosmic Couloir.
