Type: Backcountry or Sidecountry
Overview
Description
Use the
Mt. Elbert: East Ridge skintrack (or hiking trail, depending on season and snow coverage). This line descends from the major SE shoulder junction that is frequently the end of the proper summit snowfields, hence one can ski this line from the summit.
If summiting, ski down the summit snowfields (incredible turns here!), and drop skiers right towards this not-so-obvious fall line to the SE. If adding to the
Box Creek Chutes, you'll need to hike or skin back to the junction on the SE shoulder after dropping Box Creek and then ski down the line to the SE. Another option would be to simply hike to the shoulder and ski this line.
Regardless of the day's plan, once you've skied the line, you can actually see the hiking trail / skintrack to the east from the bottom of the SE basin you're now in. Choose the most efficient line back to the hiking trail and either ski or hike back down to the East Ridge TH.
